Jefferson Classic 2015

The thirteenth annual Jefferson Classic was held on July 31 and August 1 with 213 registered for a a variety of sporting events and games.

The event is sponsored each year by the Jefferson Baptist Church. Any profits from the event go to fund the digging of wells in Burkina Faso, Africa, perhaps the poorest nation on earth, where Jefferson missionaries Roy and Marilyn Keys are serving.

This year’s Classic began on Friday, July 31 at 7:00 P.M. at the Jefferson-Morgan Elementary gym with a corn hole tournament. The event also included a kid’s one mile fun run, a 5K walk/run, and a three-on-three basketball tournament. Younger children were entertained throughout the morning’s events with games of water balloon toss, three legged races, cake walks, and football toss. Great food was served from the beginning to the end of both days’ events.

Event organizer John Dorean commented, “For us it is all about giving our community a sense of pride and togetherness. We couldn’t do the event without a huge number of people sacrificially giving of their time and resources to make it happen. From our referees to the folks donating and cooking the food, folks contribute with generous hearts and joyful spirits. It has never been about making money. From the beginning, we wanted folks to know that, as a church, we were not going to profit from the event in any way so we committed every dollar beyond our expenses to a local or foreign mission.”
