Meet Some Of Our ABCOPAD Pastors

FBC, Tarentum has a new interim Pastor! Meet Pastor Chester Howell. Pastor Chet is no stranger to the church, as he lives in the area and provided pulpit supply over the years, following retirement after a career with Xerox. Frank Frischkorn was in town, and it was great time of meeting and conversation. They had the chance to talk about the ministry in Tarentum, as the congregation launches their search for a new Senior Pastor.

Frank Frischkorn had the opportunity to connect with a Pastor Scott Jones (Franklin Union, Worthington) as he traveled across the state. It was a great time together for catching up on his ministry at Franklin Union. Pastor Scott is one of our Mentor Pastors for an LLC group as well as a Search Committee Adjunct staff member.

Mark Mahserjian-Smith and Pastor David Barrett (United Baptist Church, Taylor) were sharing lunch at a local Wendy's  ... when a dear friend, Pastor Ginger Daubenhauser, showed up. She had just finished her worship service at a United Methodist Church where Pastor Ginger is serving. You might remember Pastor Ginger served at the Trinity Baptist Church in Scranton a few years ago. It was fun connecting with these great friends.

Down in Delaware... Frank Frischkorn was in Newark for a meeting at Calvary Baptist Church and had the chance to share some dinner with Pastor Corey Fields... So great to have the chance to catch up and hear the good things the LORD is doing!

Frank Frischkorn worshiped with the church family at the Baptist Church of West Chester. Pastor David Braneky did a great job helping to lead the congregation through this year’s Lenten series inspired by Rowan Williams’ book, Meeting God in Mark.

Meet Pastor Tim Kutch, lead pastor at the First Baptist Church of Ford City. Pastor Tim started at the church as the Student Ministries Pastor while his Uncle, Rev Robert French, served as the church’s interim minister. Later the congregation called Pastor Tim to become their lead minister. Pastor Tim’s under-grad work was in education, but he also had an interest in magic and is an accomplished illusionist.

Meet Pastor George Herrick. A familiar face in ABCOPAD, he's been serving as interim at the Pine City Baptist Church in New York near Elmira. While at Calvary Baptist Church in Williamsport, Mark Mahserjian-Smith met up with George and his wife Gladys. It was good to connect with all these dear friends and partners in ministry.

Strengthening Your Financial Future

Recently, the American Baptist Foundation (Kris Lutton) and the ABCOPAD Foundation (Sue MacDonald) hosted a Strengthening Your Financial Future workshop at the Central Baptist Church in Williamsport (Rev. Eleanor Siegrist, Pastor). Several churches from the Northumberland Baptist Churches attended the event.

Kris shared the resources the AB Foundation offers both individuals and churches so they can maximize their finances for ministry. One significant fact Kris Lutton shared is the fact that most churches currently hold CD’s that offer very minimal returned. By investing with the AB Foundation their 10 year average for investments is around 5%, a lot better than any CD.

If you want to learn more about the work of the Foundation contact our own Sue MacDonald to learn more.

Baptist Tabernacle Installation

It was a special day in the life of the Baptist Tabernacle congregation in Wilkes-Barre. On March 11th, the church installed their new pastors, John and Kelly Farrell. It was a great day, for sure! The future is as bright as the promises of God!

Global Hymn Sing 2018

On February 25, the congregation at New Covenant Baptist Church, Pottstown, participated in a Global Hymn Sing, organized by Keith Getty. How fun to know that 5000+ churches all over the world were singing the same song ["Jesus Shall Reign"] bringing praise to God! 76 countries and over a million people!! Now that's a concert of praise!

FBC Pottstown

Recently, Jeff Johnson spent a Sunday with the folks at First Baptist, Pottstown. Rev. Teresa Ely is the pastor. She and I had a good time visiting with one another before the start of morning worship during which time she served as worship leader and I provided the preaching.

The church service is a blend of liturgical and casual, traditional and contemporary having both a choir and a praise team.

Pastor Teresa did a children's message on the lens through which we see the world with lots of kids down front to hear her.

Following the service, everyone headed to the fellowship hall for a delicious light lunch which was followed by a presentation and conversation that I facilitated about creating and implementing vision. The church will embark on the foundational work of intentional and intense prayer practices.
